  • Creating Endodontic Excellence-Dr Clifford Ruddle 6th Feb 2009 - Full day
Evidence-driven techniques will be presented to demonstrate how to access, sequentially shape, and safely finish anatomically difficult canals. Dr. Ruddle will show new, innovative methods to enhance debridement, smear layer management, and biofilm disruption.

The advantages of warm gutta percha with vertical condensation will be illustrated in detail. This presentation will also demonstrate a technique for shaping canals and cleaning root canal systems in preparation for three-dimensional obturation.

Dr. Ruddle will emphasize the essential elements for success including access, the irrigants, and the strategic role of small-sized stainless steel hand instruments to create or verify the glide path. Focus will be maintained on the unique features of the ProTaper rotary and manual file systems, their method of use and how to consistently create fully tapered shapes.

  • Endodontic non-surgical retretament - Dr Clifford Ruddle 7th Feb 2009

Clinicians frequently encounter endodontically treated teeth that are failing. The vast majority of these cases can be successfully retreated nonsurgically. Dr. Ruddle will address certain aspects of nonsurgical retreatment including the simplified removal of posts and cores, retrieving broken instruments, and removing various obturation materials. Technology-driven techniques will be identified, described, and powerfully shown.

This lecture is designed for the dental team whose vision is to preserve strategic teeth and create endodontic excellence for its patients.

  • All-ceramic restorations - state of the art - Dr Urs Brodbeck 7th Feb 2009

The search for tooth colored and metal-free restorations are one of the major challenges in dental research. For several decades, ceramic has been used as a restorative material because of its aesthetics and intraoral stability.

Unfortunately, the survival rate of most full ceramic systems seemed unsatisfactory; due to the natural brittleness of ceramic, fractures had been the primary reason for the high failure rates in the past. But ceramics went though dramatic developments and the material properties changed significantly. In combination with innovations and improvements in adhesive technology, new possibilities were evolved to restore single teeth and to replace missing teeth.

Nowadays the clinician has a big variety of different ceramic products available to restore his patient’s metal free, to satisfy high esthetic demands or to work in a noninvasive way that preserves natural tooth structure. Sintered ceramics, pressable ceramics and high strength ceramics such as alumina and zirconia are described and critically discussed.

Heaps of clinical cases will ensure inspiration for the practitioner's daily work and inform about all the different ceramics available and their individual fields of application.

  • Root end surgery-microdentistry for esthetic success-Dr Holger Dennhardt 7th Feb 2009

With the introduction of the operating microscope, treatment options for predictably solving complicated endodontic problems have improved significantly. Therefore, indications for apical surgery seem to have shifted somewhat in favour of nonsurgical root canal retreatment. It is still imperative to consider the choice of nonsurgical treatment or retreatment before surgical intervention.

However, the use of magnification and supportive armamentarium has benefited treatment procedures in periapical surgery as well. Resin Sealer like Resilon and osteogenic products like MTA and their use will be discussed. Endodontic surgery has evolved into endodontic microsurgery, a treatment modality that produces predictable outcomes in the healing of apical periodontitis.

  • All-ceramic restorations: a clinical approach for successful treatment of the demanding patient-Dr Urs Brodbeck 8th Feb 2009 - Full Day

To restore an esthetically compromised dentition, we have to focus on two aspects: White Aesthetics (the teeth) and Pink Aesthetics (the surrounding soft tissues). Only if white and pink are in full harmony, the case is treated successfully.

White Aesthetics nowadays seems to offer many treatment modalities to reestablish a natural appearance: Small edge ups and full veneers, inlays/ onlays and partial crowns, full crowns, three-unit-bridges, multiple-unit-bridges, adhesive and cantilever bridges, posts for implants and non-vital teeth: the repertoire of all-ceramic restorations has grown extensively and should be of interest for any modern prosthodontist. For most of these different restorations and periodontal alterations, there are existing clinical long term data. It is up to the clinician now, which products or techniques he wants to choose for his patients.

Many restorative techniques will be presented step by step with mostly intraoral slides. Heaps of clinical cases will ensure inspiration for the practitioner's daily work. The practitioner gets information about all the different ceramics available and their fields of application.
